800 Semi-Permanent Release
Testing Procedures
XTEND 800 is a reactive resin
formulated to crosslink and cure on the mold surface,
offering superior durability and extended release performance.
It is a one component mold release which requires no primer.
To assure maximum adhesion to the mold surface, please
follow the application instructions carefully.
Mold
Preparation
Seasoned
Fiberglass Molds or Metal Molds
>
Thoroughly clean molds using one, or more, of the following
in succession:
CW-200HS
Stripper to remove semi-permanent coatings.
CW-80
To maintain and prep mold surfaces already coated with
a semi-permanent coating where stripping is not desired
(i.e. to remove excess application of XTEND 800, molding
residue or shop dirt before touch up, or to prep molds
already coated with a semi-permanent release).
CW-9NC
Stripper to remove waxes, polymers and polymerized wax-styrene
combinations.
>
Apply cleaner or strippers more than once if necessary.
Always use a 100% cotton cloth or a stiff natural bristle
brush (Rugged Charlie Brush).
>
Test mold cleanliness with masking tape. If tape adheres
very well, the mold is clean.
Compounded
FRP Molds
>
Wash mold well with water to remove compounding
residue dust and dry with a soft cotton cloth.
>
Wipe mold with a wet coat of CW-80. Allow to dry.
New/Green
FRP Molds
>
New and green molds can vary in their release characteristics.
Many manufacturers assist mold break-in and release
by using PVA. AXEL's S-19 Sealer, applied before XTEND
800, may also be useful for breaking-in new molds.
Steel,
Aluminum and Plated Tools
>
Although optional, aluminum and plated tools may
benefit from an application of AXEL's S-19 sealer before
application of XTEND 800.
Application
>
Saturate a clean 100% cotton cloth with release. Cloth
should be wet but not dripping.
>
Working in small areas wipe on a smooth wet film.
Do not over apply. Wait 20-30 seconds and then lightly
wipe off excess with a clean cotton cloth. Do not rub.
>
Continue application until the entire surface has been
coated. Overlap slightly.
>
Apply 3-6 coats of release allowing approximately 15
minutes between each coat for drying.
Cure
>
Allow the release to cure for a minimum of 15-20 minutes
at room temperature (70°F/21°C) before molding.
Break-In
>
Apply one coat of release after the first and third
releases. This will extend productivity. If the part
is pulling easily, continue molding.
Maintenance
/ Touch-Up
>
Wipe on touch up coats of XTEND 800 as needed.
>
If necessary, use CW-80 to remove shop dust or molding
residue.
>
Light applications of CW-80 can also be used to remove
excess application of XTEND 800.
Removal
>
In the event that molds need to be repaired or re-worked,
CW-200HS Stripper may be used to remove XTEND 800.
